Liepos 18 dieną, šeštadienį, lakūno Stasio Girėno gimtojoje Vytogaloje vyko iškilmingas renginys, skirtas paminėti Stepono Dariaus ir Stasio Girėno skrydžio per Atlantą 82-ąsias metines. Šventė prasidėjo šv. Mišiomis, kurių metu buvo meldžiamasi už lakūnus.
Vėliau renginio vedėjai Mėčislovas Raštikis (Lakūno Stepono Dariaus gimtinės muziejaus vadovas) ir Lina Gudeliūnienė (Vytogalos kaimo bendruomenės pirmininkė) tęsė šventę ir pristatė virš susirinkusiųjų skraidančius Tauragės aeroklubo lakūnus. Lėktuvą „Cesna-172“ pilotavo klubo pirmininkas Kostas Bastakys, jį lydėjo Rimantas Bajorinas ir šilališkis Sigitas Vaičiulis.
Sugiedojus „Tautinę giesmę“ sveikinimo kalbas sakė šventės svečiai. Šilalės rajono savivaldybės meras Jonas Gudauskas dėkojo kaimo bendruomenės vadovei L. Gudeliūnienei už šventės organizavimą ir Vytogalos krašto garsinimą. Jis ragino šventės dalyvius didžiuotis savo kraštu ir nepamiršti šalies istorijos.
Lietuvos Respublikos žemės ūkio ministerijos viceministras Albinas Ežerskis pasidžiaugė gražėjančia Vytogala, kurioje gimė ir augo jo mama. Linksmos šventės visiems linkėjo Upynos seniūnijos seniūnė Stefa Kažukauskienė. Gražių žodžių Vytogalai negailėjo ir Šilalės rajono savivaldybės administracijos direktorius Raimundas Vaitiekus. Jis šventės vedėjams įteikė atminimo dovanėles. Vedėjai svečiams padovanojo puodelius su simboliniu „Lituanicos“ atvaizdu.

Šventę tęsė Lietuvos kariuomenės karinių jūrų pajėgų orkestras, kuriam vadovavo patyręs kapelmeisteris Pranciškus Memėnas. Skambėjo žymių lietuvių kompozitorių (Vytauto Klovos, Mykolo Kleopo Oginskio ir kitų) kūriniai bei populiariųjų užsienio melodijų aranžuotės (grupės „Queen“, Leonardo Bernsteino „West Side Story“).
Vėliau šventės vedėjai perskaitė Stepono Dariaus ir Stasio Girėno testamentą. Koncertavo Ukmergės kultūros centro Slidžių filialo folkloro kolektyvas „Siemanys“, dainininkas Romas Dambrauskas, Dariaus ir Vilmos estradinis duetas.
