Rugsėjo 25 dieną vyko renovuoto sporto aikštyno atidarymo šventė Norberto Vėliaus gimnazijoje. Mokyklos stadiono istoriją trumpai papasakojo buvęs gimnazijos direktorius Vincas Jurgaitis. Laukuvos parapijos klebonas kunigas Virgilijus Pocius pašventino naująjį stadioną ir palinkėjo, kad sveikuose kūnuose gyventų sveikos sielos.
Gimnazijos bendruomenę sveikino meras Jonas Gudauskas, mero pavaduotojas Valdemaras Jasevičius, Administracijos direktorius Raimundas Vaitiekus, direktoriaus pavaduotoja Vera Macienė, Švietimo, kultūros ir sporto skyriaus vedėja Rasa Kuzminskaitė, UAB „Kvėdarsta“ valdybos pirmininkas Stasys Navardauskas.
Po oficialių sveikinimų gimnazijos moksleiviai padovanojo įdomų pasirodymą ant naujai įrengtų skersinių, o kūno kultūros mokytojas Robertas Mikutis pravedė trumpą rytinės mankštos pamokėlę visiems susirinkusiems. Vėliau vyko sporto varžybos Šilalės mero ir Norberto Vėliaus gimnazijos taurėms laimėti.
Prieš rekonstrukciją stadionas buvo labai blogos būklės: ant bėgimo takų po lietaus kaupėsi vanduo, veja buvo išretėjusi, o futbolo aikštelė – nelygi. Rekonstrukcijos metu buvo įrengti bėgimo takai, atitinkantys visus galiojančius reikalavimus, atnaujinta futbolo aikštelė, šuoliaduobės, įrengta paplūdimio tinklinio aikštelė, žiūrovų tribūnos, automobilių stovėjimo aikštelė, sporto aikštyno apšvietimas, lauko teniso kortai, pastatyta tvora,
Po rekonstrukcijos sporto aikštynu naudosis mokykla, miestelio bendruomenė, čia bus organizuojami sporto renginiai miestelio ir seniūnijos žmonėms.
